The Culpeper County Library aspires to offer the citizens of the County a safe, accessible, attractive place conducive to learning, research, enlightenment, creativity and enjoyment.
For the safety and comfort of customers and staff, we prohibit the following:
- Possession, distribution and/or suspicion of being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol.
- Any form of tobacco use such as smoking, vaping, e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco, etc.
- Panhandling, soliciting, selling, distributing leaflets or posting notices not authorized by the library.
- Circulating petitions on library property.
- Sleeping in the library.
- Impeding access within/outside the library building including shelves, aisles, doorways, exits and meeting rooms.
- Willful damage to or unauthorized removal of library property.
- Abusive, threatening or obscene language directed at library staff or patrons.
- Loud talking, singing, boisterous activity, use of profanity, use of audible devices without earbuds or headphones.
- Speaking on cell phones within the library building other than in the lobby.
- Extreme body odor which is objectionable to people at a distance of 2 yards or more.
- Consumption of food or uncovered beverages except in the Community Room during events/meetings.
- Children 8 years of age or younger without supervision of a parent/caretaker of 12 years of age or older. The parent/caretaker must remain in close proximity to the child.
- Running or moving in a way dangerous to self or others.
Continued failure to follow library rules will be grounds for denial of library privileges.
Police will be called when a patron refuses to leave library property after being asked to do so, or when a person in the library or on library grounds is engaging in unlawful behavior.
